Pam Slattery was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1949.  As the daughter of an artist, Pam had always been interested in art and drawing, but it was not until her move to the tropics of Cairns, Far North Queensland in 1979 that she began to paint seriously.

Her paintings were popular from the beginning of her career and have continued to be purchased by Australian and overseas art collectors.  She has had several successful solo exhibitions and has been part of many joint exhibitions in Queensland, Australia.

Though her style and subjects have seen many changes over the years, Slattery's paintings have maintained a serenity and softness not often associated with the tropics.  The Wet Tropics World Heritage Area in Far North Queensland, Australia provides an endless source of inspiration for many well-known artists as it has for Pam. The Great Barrier Reef is part of that area; the mountains and rainforest sweep down to the sea and the whole Wet Tropics area is a living museum of plants and animals.

Pam has been an artist-in-residence at the Radisson Treetops Resort, Port Douglas and at Silky Oaks Lodge, Mossman, where she would spend weeks at a time living and painting in tropical beach and rainforest surroundings.

In 1999 Pam’s watercolour "Aussie Birds" was selected for the 24th Annual Birds in Art Exhibition at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, Wisconsin, U.S.A.  The painting was also selected for the Year 2000 National Tour of the exhibition and has since been purchased by the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum as part of their permanent collection.  “Aussie Birds” is now available as an unlimited edition fine art print (see Gallery page). Printed on 270 gsm acid-free paper, each print has been individually signed by the artist and comes with a handy bird identification chart and framing hints.

Pam’s great love now is painting birds and she has become a keen birdwatcher and photographer.
